For more than 80 years, the Weavers Guild of Minnesota has been a leader in weaving and spinning education. At the heart of our success is our members, who give of themselves to assure WGM remains strong, relevant, and forward-thinking.
Since our inception, dedicated members have served on WGM’s volunteer Board of Directors. Board members collaborate with staff and volunteers on strategic initiatives and special projects, such as the move from Textile Center to Open Book. They also provide financial and operational oversight. Through every action, the Board ensures that WGM remains passionately committed to our mission of preserving and advancing the arts of weaving, spinning, and dyeing.
It is time for us to look forward to our next fiscal year and ask: Would you be interested in serving on the Board of Directors? The Guild has been a nationally recognized leader throughout its history because of the strength of its members; Today, we need your help and expertise.
We are searching for our next President Elect and Treasurer. Our membership will elect these positions in conjunction with the Annual Meeting (mid-June) for terms beginning in September.
The Guild is writing an exciting new chapter. WGM’s work in diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA) is a priority. We seek board officers with a passion for DEIA. Operations have changed in response to audience expectations and our growing membership. We need officers with an information technology and digital strategy background. With grants as a core funding source, we are looking for members who are knowledgeable about the current funding landscape.
More About the Positions
The President Elect is a three year term. The President Elect assumes the role of President in their second year, and remains on the board a third year in the guiding role of Past President. The President must listen deeply, facilitate conversation and collaboration, work closely with staff, and lead the organization in implementation of the Strategic Plan.
Board oversight ensures the guild remains fiscally sound and that the guild’s activities align with our strategic plan and values. As head of the Finance Committee, the Treasurer (a two year term) is responsible for ensuring the financials of the guild are managed in alignment with our budget priorities and best practices. The Treasurer’s financial acumen will be instrumental in the budgeting and implementation of DEIA and technology projects.
You may have the skills and passion we need! Let us connect you with existing board members to learn more about the work they do and how your skills would augment the Board. We can also share a job description for each position detailing the duties more fully. WGM’s Board meets over Zoom, so participating in our monthly meeting is easier than ever.
We look forward to hearing from you to discuss the leadership role you may be interested in serving.
