I’m Amanda, your new Board President. (That’s me, far left, on a road trip last summer with my mom and one of my kiddos). I’m the kind of person who thinks that making something from start-to-finish is more rewarding than just buying the finished product. I end up spending far more to make something from scratch, but it’s just so much more fun. Along my journey to learn how things are made, I’ve had my share of accomplishments. It wasn’t until I joined the Weavers Guild, though, that I found true fulfillment.
Like many folks, I first joined the Guild to take classes. I stayed because of the connections I made. My time with the Plied, Dyed and Woven committee comes to mind. Last spring, this amazing, dedicated team put together the Un-Annual Auction fundraiser. It showcased our members’ talents and delivered operations-sustaining funding at a critical time during Covid. Despite the hard work, the joy I felt in that success is an inspiration for the upcoming fiscal year.
This fiscal year will have more hard work, and Covid continues, but I am excited for all that is ahead. Under Linda Soranno’s thoughtful leadership (thank you!), the Guild laid the groundwork for a new strategic plan. The plan acts as a roadmap to ensure we are taking the best care of our talent and our financial resources, along with providing technology solutions to support us in our mission. I know we will be successful in delivering on the goals laid out in the plan, and I do hope that you will be excited by it, too.
I’d like to personally invite you to a presentation of our new plan on Thursday, November 11 at 7pm over Zoom. Members of the Strategic Planning committee will present an overview of WGM2025, its key priorities, and discuss how the plan developed under the guidance of DeYoung Consulting Services and from community feedback.
One of the biggest strengths of WGM is in your participation and I’d love to see all of you on November 11. Join me in this exciting moment as we look ahead to the next few years at the Weavers Guild of Minnesota.
