We asked members of the Weavers Guild Board about their weaving, spinning and dyeing journey. Read on to get to know Roberta Zeug Shell on a more personal–and creative–level.
ROBERTA ZEUG SHELL
Board Term: September 1, 2017 to August 31, 2019. Also serving as the chair of the Education Committee.
Member of WGM since: I first joined in 1978.
I am a: Weaver, specifically a shaft loom weaver.
Skills I bring to the WGM board: I am a passionate supporter of WGM’s Education Program; I also love spreadsheets.
How I came to join: I took the January Term program at WGM in 1978 with Suzanne Baizerman (Weaving), Lotus Stack (Spinning), and Connie Magoffin (Dyeing).
Loom of choice: I have an 8-shaft Glimakra and a 32-shaft Louet Megado
Current projects: Currently I’m reading/studying An Exaltation of Blocks by Rosalie Neilson.
Craft book I can’t live without: The Complete Book of Drafting for Handweavers by Madelyn van der Hoogt.
Best class I’ve ever taken: Stripes and Structures to Create Tantalizing Towels at WGM in 2013 with Donna Hanson.
Favorite place/site to buy supplies: Definitely Fiber Source! Online stores are Lone Star Loom Room for 20/2 mercerized cotton and Treenway Silks for silk.
Favorite thing about WGM: I love the engagement and sense of ownership by the membership. I’m also a big fan of our staff, Karin and Betsy.
