Introduction to Rep Weave
Have you always admired the beautiful warp faced, bold colored pieces created with rep weave? Learn the principles of designing rep and the special techniques in both the warping and weaving process that work well for this structure. Students will design and weave a tabel runner based on one of several profile drafts provided by the instructors. All yarns needed for this project may be purchased at the Guild or you may bring your own 5/2 perle cotton.

Introduction to Ply-Split Braiding
Ply-split braiding is an age-old craft used by camel herders to make girths, straps for their animals. We use this technique to make decorative pieces such as necklaces or belts. Students will learn how to make cords for use in ply-split braiding. We will also make several braids using various ply-splitting techniques.

NEW Ply Split Braiding - Beyond Key Rings
After learning the basics of ply split braiding, it’s time to have some fun with these new skills. In this one day class, we will make cords during the morning, for a project of your choice. During the last half of the class we will work on projects. Make a necklace, bracelet, or basket with the cords you’ve made. Samples of finishing will be shown. Bring gripfid tools and 5/2 or 10/2 perle cotton for making cords.

Finnish Runner / Rag Rug Techniques
In this creative weekend workshop, learn to design and weave a striped runner using cotton fabric strips as weft and Finnish seine twine as warp. Color blending of fabrics using the alternating 3-shuttle technique will be emphasized. Other topics include cutting fabric in one continuous piece, warping techniques specific to rug weaving, tension, using a temple, floating selvedges, shrinkage, end finishes and more. Looms will be warped in plain weave sett at 5 ends per inch in a 10 dent reed.

Novelty Yarn: Slubby Cable Yarn
The first session in a series of advanced spinning classes for those interested in creating novelty yarns. Students will learn several techniques for making slubby cable yarn suitable as accents for any woven or knitted piece. A spinning wheel with three bobbins and a tensioned Lazy Kate are required. All fiber will be provided by the instructor.

Spinning Seminar
Come to this seminar with your spinning wheels or spinning questions to trouble shoot the answers or tune up your wheel. This is a free format gathering led by an experienced instructor. Topics might include fiber washing and preparation, wheel maintenance, proper spinning techniques or any spinning related topic. Bring your fibers, yarns or equipment for a great day of demonstrations and individual attention.

Photoshop Tools for Woven Pixel
This class serves to prepare you for using the Woven Pixel method of drafting developed by Alice Schlein and Bhakti Ziek. An introduction to Photoshop tools and functions used in this approach will be covered. Students will create a basic design and then import it into weaving software for further refinement. No previous experience with Photoshop will be necessary for the class, although some familiarity would be helpful. Students should bring a laptop computer with Photoshop or Photoshop elements installed on it and must be able to locate files on their hard drive, open them and save them. Weaving software with the ability to import or paste in the liftplan (e.g. pixeLoom) and the book The Woven Pixel: Designing for Jacquard and Dobby Looms Using Photoshop are also highly recommended.
