An introduction to Photoshop tools and functions used in this approach will be covered. Students will create a basic design and then import it into weaving software for further refinement. No previous experience with Photoshop will be necessary for the class, although some familiarity would be helpful. Students should bring a laptop computer with Photoshop or Photoshop elements installed on it and must be able to locate files on their hard drive, open them and save them. Weaving software with the ability to import or paste in the liftplan (e.g. pixeLoom) and the book The Woven Pixel: Designing for Jacquard and Dobby Looms Using Photoshop are also highly recommended.

Learn to set up a loom and try your hand at brocade patterning while weaving a narrow four-selvage textile on a backstrap loom. Some video material on Mayan weavers will also be presented. Some session will be held outdoors at a local park, weather permitting. Loom kits available for purchase.
